Ease of Use

The R6 Supreme is intuitive and easy to operate and designed to be a tool for the daily work. It is equipped with an all-new Control and Display Unit (CDU), featuring a speedy modern graphical user interface (GUI) in a brilliant, sunlight readable 7-inch touch display with accurate colours at any viewing angle. The display has a resolution of 1024×600 pixels in more than 16M colours. The CDU has interface for central bridge equipment dimming. All information is easy to access through a GUI that reminds of a modern smartphone.

The R6 Supreme meets the Class-A AIS radio requirements with ease, and also implements advanced waveforms and communication protocols as defined by the VHF Digital Exchange System standards (VDES). The R6 Radio is capable of handling 64 parallel receive or transmit processes allowing for reception and operation of AIS, ASM, VDE-Terrestrial, VDE-Satellite, AMRD, DSC and Secure AIS over all channels, in parallel regardless of bandwidth or if they are on the lower or upper band. The R6 Supreme incorporates also the new Bridge Alarm Management (BAM) standard as well as dual LAN interfaces (IEC 61162-450) for efficient network integration into bridge systems.

Easy Installation

The R6 Supreme AIS/VDES system can easily be integrated with other on-board systems such ECDIS, radar or other display solutions using traditional NMEA serial communication or network interface. Dual network interfaces in both the transponder and CDU makes it simple to install on redundant bridge networks. The R6 Supreme offers same VHF and GPS antenna interfaces as with the majority of other AIS equipment, which simplifies re-use of cabling when upgrading.

The R6 Secure represents a new generation of AIS system that builds on the legacy of the Saab R5 Secure AIS. The R6 Secure AIS offers full interoperability with the R5 and R4 Secure AIS systems, providing selected customer groups within special-operations such as Navy, Coast Guard and Police with the option to perform encrypted AIS communication outside the public AIS network.

Seamless simultaneous reception of both encrypted and open AIS information

The AIS broadcasting standard is excellent for open information exchange between commercial ships at sea and between ship-and-shore stations. The Saab Secure solution is designed to address the needs of qualified users like Navy, Coast Guard, and Police who require non-public information exchange between their own units while still being able to receive open AIS information. Saab has been the leading provider of encrypted AIS since 2005, and the Saab Secure functionality can be offered as a complete seamless solution from vessels, aircraft, base stations, and control centers.

Saab Secure Link

The Saab Secure Link ensures seamless simultaneous reception of both encrypted and open AIS information by using a third channel, selected by the user, to ensure minimum interference with public AIS communication. Saab Secure data link can be used in parallel with AIS1 and AIS2, giving the Saab Secure AIS users the complete AIS picture at all times.

Several groups of Saab Secure users may operate on the same dedicated channel without interference by separation into up to eight different sub-groups using different organization identities. This tailored data access scheme together with operation on the dedicated channel means unrivaled performance when compared to other encrypted AIS solutions.

Saab Secure Keys

Saab offers an advanced key generating tool to ensure high-quality encryption keys are used. The tool is suitable for centralized issuing of fleet encryption keys, and keys can be an input manually from printout, sent over an existing encrypted link, or conveniently imported from file using the integrated R6 CDU SD-reader. The customer will be in full control of the issuing and handling of the crypto keys. Up to 128 encryption keys can be stored and automatically activated, and the keys will have a start time and a configurable time of validity. When activated, each key may also set the frequency of VHF channel for encryption, position report rate, and organization ID. User-defined keys may also be used as a static configuration for interoperability.

R6 Secure Crypto Solution

The R6 Secure products are supplied with built-in crypto functions. No external encryption software is required, although supported if needed. In addition to Saab Secure, the R6 Secure systems offer STANAG 4668 Ed.2 Annex C and Annex D type of encryption. While limited in functionality, the STANAG modes may offer interoperability with other systems when needed, as well as an encrypted AIS solution where a third channel is not available for Saab Secure communication.
